Ian MacGregor has been Chairman of the Board of North West Refining since its inception in 2004 and was appointed President & Chief Executive Officer in January 2014. Ian serves as a member of both the North West Redwater Partnership Executive Leadership Committee and Management Committee. Ian has been involved in most aspects of the Sturgeon Refinery’s design, corporate structure, financing and construction.
Ian is a Partner and Co-founder of North West Capital where he founded the Sturgeon Refinery and Enhance Energy. He has spent his career starting and running technical businesses in every area of the energy industry. Ian’s specialty is starting from scratch, usually with a novel idea or at the least, with a different approach and having the tenacity to operationalize it and make it a success.
Ian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary.

Claude Létourneau, President & CEO of Svante Technologies Inc. (Svante), is an industrial projects veteran renowned for his dynamic leadership. With a proven track record of steering large-scale projects from laboratory inception to full-scale industrial implementation, Mr. Létourneau is a visionary thinker whose approach is characterized by the 3Es of leadership – effort, energy, and excitement.
Possessing over three decades of experience in advancing technology development and commercialization, Claude plays a pivotal role in positioning Svante as a global leader in the development of a CO2 Marketplace. His illustrious career includes senior management roles at industry giants such as Canam Group Inc., SNC-Lavalin Inc., and Kontron Embedded Computers AG. Additionally, he has founded two technology companies, Vaperma, Inc. (specializing in membrane-based gas separation) and Avestor Inc. (focusing on thin-film lithium polymer batteries).
Claude Létourneau's influential leadership extends beyond his role at Svante, earning him recognition as one of the World's Most Influential Decision Makers by the Wall Street Journal CEO Council. This prestigious acknowledgment underscores his impact on the global stage and his commitment to driving positive change in the industry.
A bilingual executive, Claude leverages his diverse expertise to forge strategic alliances and partnerships with like-minded industry leaders. His comprehensive understanding of technology development positions Svante for rapid business scale-up, guided by an aggressive time-to-market game plan.
Educationally, Claude holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s in Chemical Engineering from the esteemed University Laval in Quebec, Canada. Grounded in both theoretical knowledge and practical application, Claude Létourneau continues to lead Svante toward a future where environmental responsibility and carbon capture initiatives redefine industry standards.

An Albertan through and through, Justin Riemer has dedicated his career to strengthening the province he loves. Now the Chief Executive Officer of Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), Justin leads the team dedicated to advancing innovations that are reducing Alberta’s greenhouse gas emissions and diversifying its economy. He has earned a reputation for skillfully navigating Canada’s innovation system, building relationships inside and outside of Alberta, and developing a strong network in support of innovation and economic development. For more than 25 years, he has achieved results in regional economic development, industry expansion, investment attraction, and innovation. Before joining ERA, he led the Alberta Region of Prairies Economic Development Canada in the federal government to support economic development across the province. Prior to that, he held several senior positions focused on innovation and investment attraction at the Government of Alberta and briefly at Alberta Health Services. Justin graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from Carleton University. Justin is happily married, has two grown boys and a daughter in law.

Peter Tertzakian is an energy economist, author, entrepreneur and podcaster with more than 35 years of experience in the business of energy — from oil and gas to renewables. Known for delivering presentations that spark discussion on some of today’s most important topics, he is frequently called on to share his knowledge of strategic issues with investors, corporate leaders, policymakers and educators around the world.
A respected industry leader, Peter is the founder of the ARC Energy Research Institute. In 2020, he launched Energyphile, a research-based project exploring energy’s past, present and future. And, in 2023, he founded Studio.Energy, an initiative dedicated to mentoring the next generation of leaders to address the world’s complex energy challenges. He currently sits on the board of the National Gallery Foundation in Ottawa.
Peter is also a storyteller at heart, using a creative approach to distil, clarify and communicate complicated issues regarding energy, economics and the environment. He’s written two international bestsellers — A Thousand Barrels a Second and The End of Energy Obesity. His most recent book, The Investor Visit and Other Stories, is a collection of creative non-fiction stories exploring how our energy past can help us navigate our energy future.
Peter has an undergraduate degree in Geophysics from the University of Alberta, a graduate degree in Econometrics from the University of Southampton UK and a Master of Science in Management of Technology from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

Deborah Yedlin joined the Calgary Chamber of Commerce in July, 2021 with a background that includes experience on Wall Street and Bay Street, and more than two decades as a business columnist for various media outlets, commenting on the nexus of business and politics since 1996.
Since moving to Calgary in 1992, Yedlin has been very active in the Calgary community - as a board member on a number of not-for-profit organizations including serving as the co-chair of the 2016 United Way Campaign. Yedlin served as the 14th Chancellor of the University of Calgary and is currently one of three co-chairs of the $250 million Calgary Cancer Centre fundraising campaign.
A first-generation Canadian, born and raised in Edmonton, Deborah is a graduate of the University of Alberta and Queen’s University. She also completed her ICD.D designation through the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.
